We are a trans-led, grassroots organisation working for safety, dignity and constitutional rights in Madhya Pradesh.
TAPISH exists because transgender people deserve more than survival — they deserve access, respect and futures shaped by their own choices.
MISSION • VISION • VALUES
Our Mission
To create safe, dignified and accessible support systems for transgender and gender-diverse people in Madhya Pradesh led by the community, rooted in lived realities, and focused on everyday survival and long-term futures.
Our Vision
A society where transgender people live with safety, freedom and equality with access to housing, healthcare, identity, livelihoods and justice, and with the power to shape decisions that affect their lives.
Our Values
-
Dignity
Every person deserves respect, privacy and choice.
-
Safety
Physical, emotional and social safety come first.
-
Community Leadership
Those most affected must lead the solutions.
-
Accountability
We are accountable first to the community we serve.
-
Solidarity
We believe in collective care and collective resistance.
Why TAPISH exists
Across Madhya Pradesh, transgender and gender-diverse people face daily
exclusion from families, housing, healthcare, education and employment.
Many are denied identity documents, refused medical
care, or pushed into unsafe living and working conditions.
TAPISH was created to respond to these realities not with charity, but with
community-run support systems that meet people where they are.
How we work
We don’t work for the community. We work with the community.
TAPISH is led and staffed by transgender people. Our
programs are shaped by lived experience, not assumptions.
We focus on everyday support — safe spaces, shelter, health access, legal
identity
and livelihoods while also engaging institutions through advocacy and sensitisation.
What makes TAPISH different
Trans-led leadership and staffing
Community-run Drop-In Centre and shelter
Focus on access, not charity
Strong grounding in Madhya Pradesh
Combination of direct support and advocacy
Our journey so far
TAPISH Foundation was registered in 2022 and is based in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
Since then, we have built community-run spaces and services in response to urgent needs —
from shelter and Drop-In Centre support to healthcare access, documentation and advocacy.
Who we are accountable to
First and always, we are accountable to the transgender and gender-diverse people who walk into our spaces.
We also work in collaboration with allies, institutions and partners committed to dignity, rights and justice.
TAPISH is not just an organisation.
It is a space built by the community, for the community.
