Trans, gender diverse, and queer people often face exclusion from families, are denied rental housing, and are forced to live in unsafe or unstable conditions. A flagship initiative of TAPISH Foundation is ‘Mera Kunba’, Madhya Pradesh’s first shelter home for trans, gender diverse, and queer people. Housing is a right linked to safety, equality and dignity, and housing insecurity is a systemic issue, not an individual failure. .

Transfeminine Person
Vani Chouhan, a 20 year old transfeminine person, faced opposition and
intimidation
from
her family for her chosen identity. Having faced violence earlier as well, this
was
a
difficult time for Vani.
After connecting with ‘Mera Kunba’ shelter home and Tapish Foundation, she received safety, support and self-confidence. After counselling, her family accepted her identity as well.
Today, Vani lives in Pune and is pursuing a career as a make-up artist, becoming self-reliant.

Khushi Singh
Transwoman
Khushi Singh, a 21 year-old transwoman, has faced difficulties and
discrimination
since
childhood. Not receiving any support from family or society, her life had become
difficult.
After coming to ‘Mera Kunba’ shelter home, she found safety, respect and self-confidence.
Today Khushi works in a cafe, becoming self-reliant.

Vishal Kumaravat
Community Member
Vishal Kumaravat, a 28 year-old youth, was going through mental stress due to
family
pressure over their gender identity. Their family was pressurising them to get
married
and had also taken away their passport and visa.
With the help of Tapish Foundation and the police, their family was counselled, and at the end, their passport was given back to them.
Today Vishal is safe and planning to return back to Dubai.
